A redesign or platform migration can strengthen organic search—or erase years of visibility. Use this checklist before, during, and after launch.

Inventory before you change anything

Crawl the current site, export indexed URLs, review search performance, identify backlinks and important templates, and record canonical, robots, sitemap, and structured-data behaviour. Without a baseline, a post-launch problem becomes guesswork.

Protect the signals

Map old URLs to their best new destinations. Preserve useful content, update internal links, verify canonical URLs, remove staging blocks, regenerate XML sitemaps, and test structured data. Redirects should be specific and intentional.

  • Create a URL redirect map
  • Keep important content accessible to crawlers
  • Test robots.txt and XML sitemaps
  • Check titles, descriptions, headings, and canonicals
  • Monitor errors and rankings after release

Launch is the beginning of monitoring

Use Search Console, analytics, server logs, and a crawler to review the first days and weeks. A technical SEO migration is complete when the new platform is stable in real search data, not when the deployment button is pressed.
